Once Upon A Time...

Alright, boys and girls, your Auntie Skye is going to tell you a story.

Once upon a time there was a romance conference. One year, it was held in Atlanta and our two brave heroines of this story decided to go. But one of them was crazy (ahem, not me) and decided that driving was FUN! So they both piled into their car and headed off to the big bad city of Hot-lanta (side note: who thought of having a summer conference in Atlanta... i mean, really.)

While they were there, they had a good time and were giggly and slightly crazy. But they noticed something. There were all these cool groups like The Cherries and Wet Noodle Posse. And they were JEALOUS.

On the LONG drive back, they decided that they wanted to be cool too. And they were going to have a group, if it killed them, damn it. (don't say damn kiddies, it's not nice) So they started brainstorming. And brainstorming. And brainstorming. Unfortunately, our heroines are often not quite bright, so they managed to achieve very little.

Until one genius (oh, okay, we all know it was Skye) said "I know! We shall use the initials SF because we both have those as our initials!"

And Sonja agreed. "Eureka! Skye, you are a genius. This is why I love and worship you and kiss the ground you walk upon."

Skye modestly nodded. "Yes, this is so."

So, with initials in mind, even more brainstorming was undertaken to come up with something that was Clever and Witty and had the initials S and F.

Exhaustion overtook our intrepid heroines and they started getting a bit silly. Skye voted continuously for Super Fantastic (which they both were), but was concerned that the domain might be already taken (which it is, by the way. By the world's scariest webpage. Eek!)

At this point in time the totally impartial narrator no longer remembers any of the other suggestions that were posited. Except Sure Fire (which, is also taken, fyi).

And then, in a fit of giggles, our intelligent heroine (yep, you guessed it in one, Skye again!) suggested stealing her brother's domain name, which was www.so5.com. Yes, a strange name to be sure, but he had long ago purchased it because it was the last 3 character domain name on the market. And ever since then, in a fit of delusion, he'd been attempting to get people to pick up the phrase "That's SO 5!" in an attempt to make the domain name worth something.

Not being serious (but obviously her subconcious is ever smarter than we had guessed) , Skye suggested that they use it. After all, free domain name... and it was conviently an S F phrase.

"But what does it mean?" Sonja asked.

"I dunno," Skye replied.

So again with the brainstorming. In the end, they determined that it really was perfect. Romance novels are rated in stars... 5 stars being the highest you can get. Therefore, when you say something is "SO 5," you're saying that it's the best of the best. Deserving 5 stars. Top of the hill... you get the idea.

For example. "Oh, wow. That scarf is SO 5!" or "Gosh, Skye, your ideas are SO 5!"

Thus endeth the story.

Of course, some people (cough, Sonja, cough cough) might have a slightly different perspective on how it all went down, but to my mind, that's the right version.

And now, let the phrase be added to the English lexicon and users the world over will use the phrase with glee. Skye and Sonja will achieve what Bryn never managed to. And he will be forced to give us his domain name (which he is currently holding out on).

Wasn't that story SO 5?

Ahem. I've used it as So 5! (implying stars like a luxury hotel) all along.

Note I already link from so5.com to your page, which I give free of charge. However, I do charge a license fee for every use of the phrase so 5! so please deliver a briefcase full of unmarked non sequential bills to me as a downpayment on your first 10 uses of the phrase

Hey is that our first real comment? We rule. Good story, Skye, although your heroine's sidekick (ME!) came off as rather dim.
